Edward S. Horton, M.D.
Dr. Horton received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency training at Dartmouth and Duke University. Dr. Horton is now a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Senior Investigator at Joslin Diabetes Center. Dr. Horton was chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Vermont.
He has served as president of both the American Diabetes Association and the American Society of Clinical Nutrition. He is the recipient of several awards and honors due to his extensive and notable career in diabetes. Dr. Horton is also Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator for several studies including Diabetes Prevention Program, the LookAHEAD Study and a Study of Diabetes, Cardiac Disease and Air Pollution Vulnerability.
Eliot Brinton, M.D.
Dr. Brinton received his medical degree from the University of Utah. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Duke University Hospital and completed a 3-year research fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Washington. Dr. Brinton is now Director of Atherometabolic Research at the Utah Foundation for Biomedical Research and President of the Utah Lipid Center. He was President of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He currently chairs the Clinical Lipidology Committee of the American Heart Association, founding president of the Utah Atherosclerosis Society and a founding board member of the National Lipid Association.
Dr. Brinton has held faculty positions at The Rockefeller University and Wake Forest University. Throughout his extensive and distinguished career, he has received many awards including a Clinical Investigator Award, a Merit Review Award and the Robert I. Levy Award of the Kinetics and Metabolism Society. He works as associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology, assistant editor of the Journal of Obesity. Previously he served as editor of Lipids Online and Section Editor of Current Atherosclerosis Reports.
Eugene Wright, Jr., MD
Dr. Wright received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. After a year-long career as an electrical engineer, he pursued his medical degree and completed his residency at Duke University Medical School. He is now medical director for Primary Care and Specialty Practices of Cape Fear Valley Health Systems.
Prior to his current career, Dr. Wright set up his own practice for 14 years until leaving to work as medial director for Integrated Provider Networks. He then joined the general medicine faculty at Duke to take over the practice of Dr. Charles Johnson. He practiced and taught for four years until pursuing his current career. He has narrowed his practice to working with the practitioners of the diabetes center and a local free clinic. Dr. Wright has served on multiple advisory and editorial boards. He was also a committee member for the first Insulin Congress.
